Shown for a regular-footed rider. Teal ring + arrow = the rider's facing direction; teal band = the tail; a dot is where a hand holds the board - bright yellow for the front hand, amber for the back one, which is the whole difference between a mute and an indy. Board and rider rotate independently - each follows its own component. Drag to orbit.
How it works
The rider yaws the board roughly 90 degrees to the direction of travel while keeping all four wheels on the ground, breaking the wheels' grip so they slide sideways and scrub speed through friction. Weight shifts back and onto the heels (frontside) or toes (backside) to unweight the wheels enough to release traction; the board is steered back in line before grip returns.
Step by step
- Roll with good speed, feet over both bolts.
- Unweight slightly by rising up, shifting pressure toward the tail.
- Push the back foot heel-side (frontside slide) while the shoulders stay facing downhill, yawing the board to 90 degrees.
- Lean back against the wheels' friction, sliding on all four wheels to shed speed.
- Steer the nose back in line before the wheels re-grip, and re-center weight.
Body mechanics
| Front foot | Over the front bolts, acting as the pivot point the tail swings around. |
|---|---|
| Back foot | Drives the tail out perpendicular with a firm heel-side (or toe-side) push. |
| Shoulders | Stay facing the direction of travel - the lower body rotates under a quiet torso. |
| Arms | Extend for counterbalance against the deceleration. |
| Gaze | Down the line of travel, never at the wheels. |
