roll yaw pitch body

Shown for a regular-footed rider. Teal ring + arrow = the rider's facing direction; teal band = the tail; a dot is where a hand holds the board - bright yellow for the front hand, amber for the back one, which is the whole difference between a mute and an indy. Board and rider rotate independently - each follows its own component. Drag to orbit.

How it works

A rail stand entered at rolling speed so the board skids sideways along the ground on its rail edge and wheel sidewalls. The rider pops the deck into its half flip while moving, catches the rail under both feet, and lets momentum drag the whole unit into a slide; friction on the urethane sidewalls is the brake. Weight must stay slightly behind the slide direction - leaning into it pitches the rider over the dead-stopping edge.

Step by step

  1. Roll at moderate speed with the front foot ready to pinch the toe-side rail.
  2. Pop the board into its half kickflip rotation and catch the upturned rail with both feet, one over each truck.
  3. Land the edge slightly ahead of your center of mass so the deck skids forward instead of stopping dead.
  4. Ride the slide with knees deeply bent, hips low, weight trailing the direction of travel.
  5. As friction kills the speed, either step off, or hop and flip the board back to its wheels to roll away.
  6. Absorb the flip-out landing over the bolts.

Body mechanics

Front footExecutes the half-flip pinch, then rides the rail over the front truck, steering the skid angle with toe pressure.
Back footCatches the tail end of the rail and keeps weight biased back against the deceleration.
ShouldersTurned slightly open in the direction of travel to keep the chest over the sliding edge.
ArmsLow and wide, trailing arm back as a counterweight against the forward pitch of deceleration.
GazeAhead along the slide path, dropping to the rail only for the flip-out.
