roll yaw pitch body

Shown for a regular-footed rider. Teal ring + arrow = the rider's facing direction; teal band = the tail; a dot is where a hand holds the board - bright yellow for the front hand, amber for the back one, which is the whole difference between a mute and an indy. Board and rider rotate independently - each follows its own component. Drag to orbit.

How it works

Consecutive 180-degree pivots that alternate direction, so the rider lumbers forward in big stomping arcs like Godzilla taking steps - which is exactly where the name comes from. Board and rider swing through a half turn together over the loaded wheels, and then the very next pivot unwinds it the other way, so each pair nets to nothing and the rider finishes on the heading they started on. That reversal is the whole character of it: a 180 that stays is a frontside 180, and a chain of turns that keeps going the same way is an endover. Momentum carries through because the loaded wheels never stop rolling.

Step by step

  1. Roll at a walking pace with the feet spread over the trucks.
  2. Weight one end to lift the other two wheels clear.
  3. Swing board and body together through 180 degrees, frontside.
  4. Set down, reload, and immediately swing the same 180 back the other way - backside this time.
  5. Keep the arcs big and the knees soft; the stomp is the point.
  6. Repeat the pair to lumber down the flat.

Body mechanics

Front footLoads the leading truck to become the pivot point for each 180.
Back footUnweights and swings with the deck, then re-plants to prepare the reversed pivot.
ShouldersWind alternately frontside and backside, one wind-up per step - the trick's entire engine and its hardest habit.
ArmsSweep side to side with each alternating turn, checking the rotation dead at 180 every time.
GazeDown the intended path, re-found at the end of every half turn to keep the walk tracking straight.
