roll yaw pitch body

Shown for a regular-footed rider riding nollie. Teal ring + arrow = the rider's facing direction; teal band = the tail; a dot is where a hand holds the board - bright yellow for the front hand, amber for the back one, which is the whole difference between a mute and an indy. Board and rider rotate independently - each follows its own component. Drag to orbit.

How it works

A fingerflip popped off the nose while the hand throws it from the TAIL - the snap and the throw are at opposite ends, which is the whole point: in a standard fingerflip the front foot and the front hand are competing for the nose, and popping nollie frees the nose for the foot and gives the hand the tail instead. The board still goes a full turn in the heelflip direction, still with the grabbed end lifted into a wheelie first, and is still caught with both feet on the bolts. The pop gets the deck higher than a hand alone can.

Step by step

  1. Roll at an easy pace with the front foot on the nose, ready to pop.
  2. Reach back and take the tail with the back hand, fingers underneath.
  3. Lift the tail so the board tips forward onto its front wheels.
  4. Pop off the nose and snap the wrist together - one motion, opposite ends.
  5. Release and let the deck take a full heelflip-direction turn beneath you.
  6. Catch both bolts and roll away.

Body mechanics

Front footSnaps the nose for the pop, then lifts clear and leads the catch.
Back footClears the deck early and re-catches the back bolts; the tail belongs to the hand.
ShouldersSquare over the board; the throw supplies all the rotation.
ArmsOne hand throws, the other balances.
GazeOn the deck from the release to the catch.
