roll yaw pitch body

Shown for a regular-footed rider riding nollie. Teal ring + arrow = the rider's facing direction; teal band = the tail; a dot is where a hand holds the board - bright yellow for the front hand, amber for the back one, which is the whole difference between a mute and an indy. Board and rider rotate independently - each follows its own component. Drag to orbit.

How it works

A mirror-image ollie popped off the nose while rolling forward. The front foot snaps the nose into the ground, pitching the board tail-up around the lateral axis; the back foot then drags backward along the grip toward the tail to lift and level the board. Because the pop happens at the leading end while traveling forward, timing and weight distribution are less forgiving than a regular ollie.

Step by step

  1. Place the front foot on the nose pocket and the back foot near or just in front of the back bolts.
  2. Crouch with weight slightly over the front leg while rolling at moderate speed.
  3. Snap the nose straight down and jump off the front foot.
  4. Drag the back foot backward up the grip toward the tail to pull the board up and level it.
  5. Level the board at peak height with both feet over the bolts.
  6. Absorb the landing with bent knees and roll away forward.

Body mechanics

Front footBall of the foot centered on the nose; delivers the downward snap then lifts to let the board rise.
Back footFlat near the back bolts; drags backward along the grip to level the board, mirroring an ollie's front-foot slide.
ShouldersSquare over the board; resist the urge to lean back as the nose pops.
ArmsLift with the jump, then spread slightly for balance over the leading pop.
GazeDown at the nose during pop, then ahead to the landing zone.
