roll yaw pitch body

Shown for a regular-footed rider. Teal ring + arrow = the rider's facing direction; teal band = the tail; a dot is where a hand holds the board - bright yellow for the front hand, amber for the back one, which is the whole difference between a mute and an indy. Board and rider rotate independently - each follows its own component. Drag to orbit.

How it works

Rolling balanced on the front wheels only, center of mass stacked over the front axle with the tail held up. Harder than a regular manual because the balance point sits over the leading truck: any deceleration pitches the rider forward past the tipping point, and the nose's shorter lever gives finer, less forgiving pitch control.

Step by step

  1. Roll with the front foot on the nose pocket and back foot near the back bolts.
  2. Shift weight forward over the front leg while pressing the nose to lift the rear wheels.
  3. Stack hips over the front axle, knees bent, tail held just off the ground.
  4. Feather nose pressure with the front ankle and counterweight with the back foot.
  5. Ease weight back to set the rear wheels down.

Body mechanics

Front footBall of the foot on the nose, controlling pitch with fine ankle flexion - the primary balance input.
Back footRests near the back bolts as a counterweight, lifting the tail via the legs, not toe pressure.
ShouldersSquare, with a slight forward hinge from the hips.
ArmsWide and active, correcting fore-aft drift.
GazeAhead of the front wheels a few meters, keeping the head still.
