roll yaw pitch body

Shown for a regular-footed rider riding fakie. Teal ring + arrow = the rider's facing direction; teal band = the tail; a dot is where a hand holds the board - bright yellow for the front hand, amber for the back one, which is the whole difference between a mute and an indy. Board and rider rotate independently - each follows its own component. Drag to orbit.

How it works

The Elguerial turned the other way: approached fakie and carried a full 360 frontside through a planted hand. Grosso describes the shape as a frontside slob gay twist with a hand put down in it, which is the useful way to read it - the rotation is the gay twist's, the slob grab holds the board through it, and the plant is what makes it an invert rather than an air. Going up backwards into a frontside rotation is the hard part: the plant hand has to find coping the rider cannot see until the spin has already started.

Step by step

  1. Ride up the wall fakie with real speed, shoulders wound for the frontside turn.
  2. Take slob with the front hand as the tail passes the coping.
  3. Reach the plant hand blind for the coping and set it as the rotation opens.
  4. Drive the full 360 frontside over the planted arm, body inverting through the middle of it.
  5. Release as the board comes back under, and drop in forward.

Body mechanics

Front footHolds against the slob grab, keeping the board pinned through the whole turn.
Back footStays weighted on the tail; losing it mid-rotation loses the trick.
ShouldersWound hard before the plant - all 360 degrees are paid for on the way up.
ArmsGrab hand takes slob early, plant hand goes blind and becomes the axis.
GazeOver the leading shoulder, picking up the transition as late as possible.
