Rock to Fakie

Shown for a regular-footed rider. Teal ring + arrow = the rider's facing direction; teal band = the tail; a dot is where a hand holds the board - bright yellow for the front hand, amber for the back one, which is the whole difference between a mute and an indy. Board and rider rotate independently - each follows its own component. Drag to orbit.
How it works
The rider lets the front truck float over the coping so the middle of the deck teeter-totters (rocks) on the lip, then pulls the board back into the ramp riding fakie. The whole trick is a weight-transfer problem: nose weight to lay the deck over the coping, then a decisive shift onto the tail to lift the front wheels clear of the coping on the way back in - hanging up the front truck here is the most famous slam in ramp skating.
Step by step
- Approach the coping straight on with moderate speed, knees bent.
- As the front truck reaches the lip, lift it slightly and push the nose over so the deck's mid-section rests on the coping.
- Rock forward briefly - front wheels over the deck side, board see-sawing on the lip.
- Shift your weight back onto the tail-side foot and lift the nose so the front truck clears the coping cleanly.
- Lean down the transition and ride away fakie, absorbing the re-entry with your knees.
Body mechanics
| Front foot | Over the front bolts; presses the nose over the coping for the rock, then lifts it to clear the lip on re-entry. |
|---|---|
| Back foot | On the tail, controlling the see-saw and taking all the weight during the pull-back in. |
| Shoulders | Stay square to the board the entire trick; the crucial move is leaning them back down the ramp for the fakie re-entry. |
| Arms | Quiet and slightly raised for fore-aft balance on the teeter point. |
| Gaze | At the coping until the deck is rocked, then down the transition for the fakie roll-in. |
