Airwalk

Shown for a regular-footed rider. Teal ring + arrow = the rider's facing direction; teal band = the tail; a dot is where a hand holds the board - bright yellow for the front hand, amber for the back one, which is the whole difference between a mute and an indy. Board and rider rotate independently - each follows its own component. Drag to orbit.
How it works
The rider grabs the nose, takes both feet off the board, and scissors the legs in mid-air - front foot kicked forward, back foot back - as if walking on nothing. The nosegrab is the only thing holding the board, which dangles from the hand like a briefcase while the legs split; the entire trick then has to be reassembled in reverse, both feet finding their bolts before the wall does. It is the definitive crowd trick of the 1980s vert era.
Step by step
- Launch a straight air with maximum comfortable amplitude.
- Grab the nose firmly with the front hand as you rise.
- Kick both feet off the board and scissor them - front leg forward, back leg back - while the hand carries the deck.
- Optionally switch the scissor once at the peak for a double airwalk.
- Pull the board back under you with the grab, guide both feet onto the bolts, release, and absorb the landing.
Body mechanics
| Front foot | Kicks forward into empty space, then leads the reassembly by finding the front bolts first. |
|---|---|
| Back foot | Kicks rearward, then returns to the tail as the board is pulled back to level. |
| Shoulders | Stay square and upright - the split happens below a quiet torso. |
| Arms | Front hand carries the entire board through the walk; rear arm extends back to balance the scissor. |
| Gaze | Fixed on the re-entry point below; the feet are guided by feel, not sight. |
