Rocket Air

Shown for a regular-footed rider. Teal ring + arrow = the rider's facing direction; teal band = the tail; a dot is where a hand holds the board - bright yellow for the front hand, amber for the back one, which is the whole difference between a mute and an indy. Board and rider rotate independently - each follows its own component. Drag to orbit.
How it works
Mid-air the rider slides both feet onto the tail, grabs the nose with both hands, and points the board straight up like a rocket on a launch pad. The trick is a full reconfiguration of the rider-board system in the air: the feet abandon their bolts, the hands take over the nose, and everything must be reversed - feet walked back to the bolts, board rotated back to level - before re-entry, making the rocket a race against the descent.
Step by step
- Launch a big straight air; height buys the time the foot-work needs.
- As you peak, grab the nose with your front hand, then bring the back hand to it as well.
- Slide or step both feet back onto the tail while pulling the nose vertical.
- Hold the rocket: board perpendicular to the ground, both hands on the nose, both feet stacked on the tail.
- Push the nose back down and forward, walk the front foot back to the bolts, release, and land.
Body mechanics
| Front foot | Steps back to join the rear foot on the tail, then returns to the bolts on the rebuild. |
|---|---|
| Back foot | Anchors the tail throughout, the fixed point the whole reconfiguration hinges on. |
| Shoulders | Stay tall and stacked as the board comes vertical in front of the body. |
| Arms | Both hands hold the nose skyward - the arms literally aim the rocket. |
| Gaze | At the board through the reconfiguration, then past it to the transition the moment the rebuild starts. |
