Shown for a regular-footed rider. Teal ring + arrow = the rider's facing direction; teal band = the tail; a dot is where a hand holds the board - bright yellow for the front hand, amber for the back one, which is the whole difference between a mute and an indy. Board and rider rotate independently - each follows its own component. Drag to orbit.
How it works
The rider jumps and rotates their body 180 degrees around its own vertical axis while the board continues rolling flat and unrotated beneath them, landing in the opposite stance. Like the hippie jump, the takeoff must be a pure vertical unload - any torque through the feet would yaw the board - with all rotation generated by the arms and trunk after the feet leave the grip. Frontside is standard; backside body varials exist as well.
Step by step
- Roll straight with feet over the bolts and shoulders wound slightly against the intended spin.
- Jump straight up off both feet with no shear force on the board.
- Rotate the body 180 with arms and hips once airborne, keeping the board in peripheral view.
- Spot the bolts and land in the opposite stance.
- Absorb and roll away switch (or back to normal if started switch).
Body mechanics
| Front foot | Unloads vertically; becomes the back foot on landing. |
|---|---|
| Back foot | Unloads vertically; becomes the front foot on landing. |
| Shoulders | Generate the entire rotation after takeoff; wind-up is subtle to avoid steering the board. |
| Arms | Swing to drive the 180 and then spread to stabilize the switch landing. |
| Gaze | Down at the board throughout - it is the landing target and it is not rotating with you. |
