roll yaw pitch body

Shown for a regular-footed rider. Teal ring + arrow = the rider's facing direction; teal band = the tail; a dot is where a hand holds the board - bright yellow for the front hand, amber for the back one, which is the whole difference between a mute and an indy. Board and rider rotate independently - each follows its own component. Drag to orbit.

How it works

A kickflip during which the rider's body rotates 180 degrees around its own vertical axis while the board flips in place with no yaw, so the rider lands on the flipped board in the opposite stance - the classic 'sex change'. The flick must impart pure roll with zero shove, because the body's rotation gives it no second chance to correct board yaw; the body 180 (usually frontside) is generated after the flick by arms and trunk, exactly as in a plain body varial.

Step by step

  1. Set up for a standard kickflip with shoulders wound very slightly against the intended body spin.
  2. Pop and flick the heel-side nose corner cleanly, keeping the board's yaw dead-zero.
  3. Immediately rotate the body 180 frontside with arms and hips, leaving the board flipping in place.
  4. Spot the grip finishing its roll as your rotation completes.
  5. Catch and land in switch stance over the bolts.

Body mechanics

Front footDelivers a clean, shove-free flick, then becomes the back foot on landing.
Back footPops straight down, then swings around as the new front foot.
ShouldersQuiet through the flick, then drive the 180 body spin hard immediately after.
ArmsThe engine of the body varial - swung across the chest after the flick.
GazeStays pinned on the flipping board while the body rotates around it.
