Shown for a regular-footed rider. Teal ring + arrow = the rider's facing direction; teal band = the tail; a dot is where a hand holds the board - bright yellow for the front hand, amber for the back one, which is the whole difference between a mute and an indy. Board and rider rotate independently - each follows its own component. Drag to orbit.
How it works
The rider runs or stands holding the board by the nose in one hand, jumps, places or drops the board beneath their feet in mid-air, and lands on the bolts rolling away. The board must be released level, with its long axis aligned to the direction of motion, so it neither pitches nor yaws in the instant between release and footfall. The term 'acid drop' is often used loosely for the same move done off a drop.
Step by step
- Hold the board at the nose with the leading hand, grip facing your body, wheels down-forward.
- Jog or stand facing the run-out and jump upward off both feet.
- Swing the board under your feet and release it level, wheels down.
- Guide both feet onto the bolts the instant the board leaves the hand.
- Land with knees bent, weight centered, and roll away.
Body mechanics
| Front foot | Targets the front bolts as the board is released. |
|---|---|
| Back foot | Lands on or just ahead of the tail simultaneously with the front foot. |
| Shoulders | Square to the run-out; the board hand crosses under the body without twisting the torso. |
| Arms | Leading arm places the board; both arms then rise for landing balance. |
| Gaze | At the deck while placing it, then instantly forward on touchdown. |
