Shown for a regular-footed rider. Teal ring + arrow = the rider's facing direction; teal band = the tail; a dot is where a hand holds the board - bright yellow for the front hand, amber for the back one, which is the whole difference between a mute and an indy. Board and rider rotate independently - each follows its own component. Drag to orbit.
How it works
A footplant off the back foot: at the lip the rider grabs the board (classically nosegrab), stomps the back foot onto the coping, and springs off it to boost back into the ramp. The plant leg is a second engine - where an air recycles rolling speed, the fastplant adds a genuine jump, so height out of the plant can exceed what the approach speed alone would give. The grab keeps the board with the front foot while the back leg does its plyometric work. What separates it from a boneless is where the plant happens: a boneless steps off before leaving the ground, a fastplant ollies up first, grabs, and only then puts a foot down on the obstacle.
Step by step
- Ride up the transition with moderate speed, slightly backside.
- As the board reaches the lip, grab the nose with your front hand and lift the board's rear.
- Stomp your back foot onto the coping, taking your full weight on it.
- Spring off the plant leg, throwing height back into the ramp while the grab carries the board.
- Re-plant the back foot on the tail, release the grab, and drop in on the transition.
Body mechanics
| Front foot | Stays on the board, hooked under the grab's control, carrying the deck through the plant. |
|---|---|
| Back foot | Plants on the coping and delivers the explosive jump - the trick's engine and namesake speed. |
| Shoulders | Stay over the ramp; leaning out over the deck during the plant strands the jump on the coping. |
| Arms | Front hand holds the nosegrab, keeping the board attached; rear arm swings up with the spring. |
| Gaze | At the coping for the stomp, then immediately down the transition for the re-entry. |
