Shown for a regular-footed rider. Teal ring + arrow = the rider's facing direction; teal band = the tail; a dot is where a hand holds the board - bright yellow for the front hand, amber for the back one, which is the whole difference between a mute and an indy. Board and rider rotate independently - each follows its own component. Drag to orbit.
How it works
The cancel flip mirrored onto the heel side. The front foot kicks the board out into a heelflip, and part-way through the roll it comes back down on the rail that has risen and pushes it back the way it came. One turn of travel, no net rotation. It is the harder of the pair because the heel-side flick throws the board further from the body than a kickflip does, so there is less deck under the foot when the moment comes to stamp it back, and the reversal has to be found by feel on the way out rather than set up in advance.
Step by step
- Set up as for a heelflip with the front foot's heel hanging off the pocket.
- Pop and kick out, but only far enough to bring the grip over.
- Track the toe rail as it rises past level.
- Drop the front foot back onto it from above to reverse the roll before it completes.
- Keep the board under you - the heel-side flick will try to send it away.
- Catch wheels-down and ride out.
Body mechanics
| Front foot | Kicks out for the half heelflip, then comes back down on the risen toe rail to send it home. |
|---|---|
| Back foot | Pops and lifts, staying over the tail to receive the returning board. |
| Shoulders | Held square - the heel-side kick already pulls the board outward without help. |
| Arms | Out slightly for balance against a board travelling away from the body. |
| Gaze | On the toe rail, which is what tells you the roll is far enough over to reverse. |
