roll yaw pitch body

Shown for a regular-footed rider. Teal ring + arrow = the rider's facing direction; teal band = the tail; a dot is where a hand holds the board - bright yellow for the front hand, amber for the back one, which is the whole difference between a mute and an indy. Board and rider rotate independently - each follows its own component. Drag to orbit.

How it works

An ollie in which the board completes one full rotation around its long axis, grip tape rolling toward the rider's heels first. The rotation is generated by the front foot: instead of the ollie's straight leveling slide, it slides diagonally up the deck and flicks off the heel-side corner of the nose pocket, applying an off-axis impulse that converts the ollie's pitch into roll. The body stays square above the flip and the feet catch the grip as it returns upright.

Step by step

  1. Back foot on the tail pocket; front foot behind the front bolts, angled about 45 degrees, toes toward the heel edge.
  2. Crouch and pop a normal ollie off the tail.
  3. Slide the front foot diagonally toward the heel-side nose corner and flick off the pocket with the ankle.
  4. Pull both knees up, letting the board roll once beneath you.
  5. Catch the grip with the back foot first as the board returns wheels-down.
  6. Plant both feet over the bolts and roll away.

Body mechanics

Front footBall of the foot behind the front bolts, angled 45 degrees toward the heel edge; slides and snaps off the heel-side nose pocket to create all the roll.
Back footStandard ollie pop, then lifts high and re-catches the grip to stop rotation.
ShouldersSquare over the board; dipping the leading shoulder causes the board to drift behind.
ArmsRelaxed lift with the pop; front arm counterbalances the flick.
GazeDown at the board through flick and catch - watch the grip come around.
