Shown for a regular-footed rider. Teal ring + arrow = the rider's facing direction; teal band = the tail; a dot is where a hand holds the board - bright yellow for the front hand, amber for the back one, which is the whole difference between a mute and an indy. Board and rider rotate independently - each follows its own component. Drag to orbit.
How it works
A powerslide-pivot on the transition that swaps your direction of travel from forward to fakie (or fakie to forward) without leaving the surface. Riding down the wall, the rider unweights, snaps hips and shoulders 180 so the wheels break traction and slide around, then re-weights riding fakie. It is the classic way to keep a line alive after a trick that re-enters forward, and the frontside version is so standard it named the trick in Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3.
Step by step
- Re-enter or ride down the transition with knees compressed and weight centered.
- Unweight the board slightly by lifting your hips - enough for the wheels to break traction, not enough to leave the ramp.
- Snap your shoulders and hips frontside 180; the wheels skid around beneath you on the wall's surface.
- Re-weight the board evenly the instant it faces the new direction and absorb the skid with your knees.
- Roll away fakie down the transition, ready to pump the next wall.
Body mechanics
| Front foot | Over the front bolts, pressing through the slide so the front wheels pivot rather than wash out. |
|---|---|
| Back foot | Over the rear bolts or tail pocket, steering the tail through the skid. |
| Shoulders | Deliver the entire rotation - a fast 180 snap while the board is unweighted. |
| Arms | Whip with the shoulders to power the spin, then freeze to stop the rotation at exactly 180. |
| Gaze | Spot the flat bottom over your shoulder mid-slide so the fakie roll-away is straight. |
