Shown for a regular-footed rider. Teal ring + arrow = the rider's facing direction; teal band = the tail; a dot is where a hand holds the board - bright yellow for the front hand, amber for the back one, which is the whole difference between a mute and an indy. Board and rider rotate independently - each follows its own component. Drag to orbit.
How it works
The back hand reaches between the legs and grabs the heel-side rail - the stalefish's rude cousin, threading through the legs instead of behind them. The between-the-legs path forces a deep squat with knees pushed wide, compressing the whole airborne posture into a low crouch; it trades the stalefish's stretched elegance for a compact, gargoyle-like tuck beloved of pool skaters.
Step by step
- Air out of the coping and compress into a deep, wide-kneed squat.
- Thread the back hand down between your thighs toward the heel-side rail.
- Grab the rail between the feet from the inside, knees bracketing the arm.
- Hold the crouched grab through the peak, board pulled tight to the soles.
- Withdraw the hand cleanly, rise out of the squat, and extend for the landing.
Body mechanics
| Front foot | Planted over the front bolts, knee flared outward to clear the threading arm. |
|---|---|
| Back foot | On the tail, knee also flared; the stance looks bow-legged from the flat. |
| Shoulders | Hunched low over the board - this grab lives in full compression. |
| Arms | Back hand dives between the legs to the heel rail; front arm stabilizes ahead. |
| Gaze | Under the front shoulder, down at the wall where the wheels will meet it. |
