Stiffy

Shown for a regular-footed rider. Teal ring + arrow = the rider's facing direction; teal band = the tail; a dot is where a hand holds the board - bright yellow for the front hand, amber for the back one, which is the whole difference between a mute and an indy. Board and rider rotate independently - each follows its own component. Drag to orbit.
How it works
An indy grab with both legs boned ramrod straight, so rider and board form one rigid plank angled through the air. Where most tweaks fold one knee and extend the other, the stiffy locks both - the board is pushed as far from the torso as the legs allow while the back hand's grab keeps it attached. The double extension leaves no slack for corrections, so the entire landing must be pre-set before the legs lock.
Step by step
- Air off the lip with good amplitude and compress normally.
- Grab indy (back hand, toe rail between the feet) as you rise.
- Punch both legs straight simultaneously, pushing the board away from your chest into the locked plank.
- Hold the stiff position through the peak - no knee bend, board at arm's length.
- Retract both knees together, pull the board back under the hips, release and land.
Body mechanics
| Front foot | Drives forward into full extension, toes pointed against the grip. |
|---|---|
| Back foot | Extends in lockstep with the front - the synchronization is the trick. |
| Shoulders | Crunch slightly forward, folding at the hips to let the legs project the board. |
| Arms | Back hand clamps the indy grab as the tether; front arm extends for the plank's balance line. |
| Gaze | Along the boned legs to the board, then to the transition as the knees recompress. |
