roll yaw pitch body

Shown for a regular-footed rider. Teal ring + arrow = the rider's facing direction; teal band = the tail; a dot is where a hand holds the board - bright yellow for the front hand, amber for the back one, which is the whole difference between a mute and an indy. Board and rider rotate independently - each follows its own component. Drag to orbit.

How it works

A 360 flip with the board rolling twice instead of once: two kickflip rotations and a full 360 degrees of backside yaw, all from one scoop and one flick. Both rates have to double up inside the same air, and because the scoop that drives the yaw also drives part of the roll, the two rotations have to be balanced against each other - too much scoop and it becomes a 360 shove-it with a late flick, too much flick and the yaw dies at 270. The rider stays open, letting the board out-rotate them entirely.

Step by step

  1. Set up as for a 360 flip: back foot in the pocket of the tail, front foot back and angled.
  2. Scoop the tail hard backside and down, generating the full 360 of yaw first.
  3. Flick out off the nose in the same motion, but sharper than for a tre, to buy the second rotation.
  4. Jump high and pull the knees up, staying square while the board out-rotates you.
  5. Watch for the second pass of the grip tape as the 360 completes - the two finish together.
  6. Catch with the back foot over the bolts and stamp the landing.

Body mechanics

Front footA sharp, short flick - it has to add a whole extra rotation without slowing the yaw.
Back footDoes the scoop and the pop as one stroke, then catches first on the way down.
ShouldersOpen and quiet: the board turns 360, the rider does not.
ArmsBalanced and low, resisting the urge to turn with the board.
GazeDown on the board, tracking the flip and the spin at once.
