Frontside Tailslide

Shown for a regular-footed rider. Teal ring + arrow = the rider's facing direction; teal band = the tail; a dot is where a hand holds the board - bright yellow for the front hand, amber for the back one, which is the whole difference between a mute and an indy. Board and rider rotate independently - each follows its own component. Drag to orbit.
How it works
The tailslide onto a toe-side ledge: a frontside quarter-turn sets the tail on the corner with the rider's back to the obstacle, sliding open to their landing but blind to the ledge itself. The back leg again carries the structure, but here the rider hangs their heels off the support side, so the lock is held by pressing the tail edge into the corner while the chest stays out over the run-out. Frontside tailslides on coping - swung in from below on transition - are among the oldest and most stylish lip tricks.
Step by step
- Roll at the ledge on your toe side with speed, angle shallow.
- Pop and rotate a frontside 90, swinging the tail onto the edge behind you.
- Lock the tail's underside on the corner, nose high, back to the ledge.
- Keep hips stacked over the back foot, chest facing the run-out.
- Slide, feeling the corner through the back foot since the tail is out of view.
- Turn out 90 to forward off the end (or pop out early), landing and rolling away.
Body mechanics
| Front foot | Holds the nose up and away; leads the un-turn on exit. |
|---|---|
| Back foot | Presses the tail onto the unseen corner - all slide feedback comes through this foot. |
| Shoulders | Quarter-turned frontside, chest open to the landing zone the whole slide. |
| Arms | Front arm reaches down-course; back arm hovers over the ledge as a depth gauge. |
| Gaze | Down the ledge line at the exit; brief glances at the tail only on lock-in. |
