Shown for a regular-footed rider. Teal ring + arrow = the rider's facing direction; teal band = the tail; a dot is where a hand holds the board - bright yellow for the front hand, amber for the back one, which is the whole difference between a mute and an indy. Board and rider rotate independently - each follows its own component. Drag to orbit.
How it works
The board pitches nose-up around its lateral axis when the tail is slammed into the ground, and the rebound plus the rider's upward jump lifts the whole board. The front foot then slides up the grip toward the nose, dragging the board higher and leveling the pitch back to flat mid-air. No yaw or roll occurs; the trick is pure pitch control and unweighting.
Step by step
- Set the back foot on the tail pocket with the ball of the foot centered, front foot just behind the middle of the deck, angled slightly.
- Crouch, keeping shoulders square over the board and weight centered.
- Snap the tail straight down into the ground while jumping upward off the back foot.
- As the nose rises, slide the outside edge of the front foot up the grip toward the nose to drag the board upward.
- At peak height, push the front foot slightly forward and level the board flat.
- Let the board fall level, catch with both feet over the bolts, bend knees to absorb the landing and roll away.
Body mechanics
| Front foot | Flat across the deck just behind the midpoint; slides up the grip on its outer edge to drag and level the board. |
|---|---|
| Back foot | Ball of the foot on the center of the tail; snaps the tail down hard then lifts and rides the tail back to level. |
| Shoulders | Stay square and parallel to the board throughout; no wind-up. |
| Arms | Rise naturally with the jump for lift, then settle to stabilize the landing. |
| Gaze | Eyes on the nose or a few feet ahead of the front truck through pop and landing. |
