Shown for a regular-footed rider. Teal ring + arrow = the rider's facing direction; teal band = the tail; a dot is where a hand holds the board - bright yellow for the front hand, amber for the back one, which is the whole difference between a mute and an indy. Board and rider rotate independently - each follows its own component. Drag to orbit.
How it works
An ollie during which board and body rotate together 180 degrees around the shared vertical axis, chest opening toward the direction of travel first. Rotation is generated before the pop: the shoulders wind backside, then unwind frontside as the tail snaps, and the feet steer the board around with the hips so board yaw tracks body yaw one-to-one. The rider lands rolling fakie.
Step by step
- Set up in ollie position, with the back foot slightly toward the toe edge of the tail for steering.
- Wind the shoulders slightly backside (closed) during the crouch.
- Pop the tail while unwinding the shoulders frontside, chest opening down the line of travel.
- Guide the board around with both feet, front foot leveling as the nose sweeps 180.
- Let hips and board complete the half rotation together.
- Land over the bolts riding fakie, shoulders finishing square to the board.
Body mechanics
| Front foot | Standard ollie placement; slides and then presses to carry the nose through the frontside sweep. |
|---|---|
| Back foot | Ball of the foot on the toe side of the tail; pops and pushes the tail behind the heels. |
| Shoulders | Wind slightly backside, then lead the rotation frontside - the board follows the shoulders. |
| Arms | Open with the rotation, front arm sweeping toward the tail's original position. |
| Gaze | Look over the leading (front) shoulder toward the landing, picking it up mid-rotation. |
