Shown for a regular-footed rider. Teal ring + arrow = the rider's facing direction; teal band = the tail; a dot is where a hand holds the board - bright yellow for the front hand, amber for the back one, which is the whole difference between a mute and an indy. Board and rider rotate independently - each follows its own component. Drag to orbit.
How it works
The transition original of the frontside feeble: riding up the ramp frontside, the back truck locks and grinds the coping while the front truck pokes over onto the deck side, nose angled down toward the platform and the deck rail riding the coping between. Gravity on a ramp pulls the rider back down the transition, so the lock must be loaded toward the deck - chest over the coping - with the back truck steering how long the grind runs before the rider lifts the nose back over the coping and drops into the ramp.
Step by step
- Carve up the transition frontside with enough speed to reach the coping.
- As the front truck passes the coping, push it over toward the deck, nose angled down.
- Lock the back truck against the coping, deck rail seated on it, front wheels over the deck side.
- Grind along the coping with your chest over the lip and weight on the rear hanger.
- As the grind slows, pull the nose back over the coping toward the ramp.
- Unweight, drop the front truck down the transition, and ride away down the ramp.
Body mechanics
| Front foot | Steers the nose over the coping onto the deck side, then pulls it back for re-entry. |
|---|---|
| Back foot | Weights the tail over the grinding truck, controlling grind speed and release. |
| Shoulders | Open frontside, chest floating above the coping to keep from sliding back into the ramp. |
| Arms | Leading arm reaches over the deck; trailing arm balances toward the flat. |
| Gaze | Along the coping during the grind, then down the transition on re-entry. |
