roll yaw pitch body

Shown for a regular-footed rider riding nollie. Teal ring + arrow = the rider's facing direction; teal band = the tail; a dot is where a hand holds the board - bright yellow for the front hand, amber for the back one, which is the whole difference between a mute and an indy. Board and rider rotate independently - each follows its own component. Drag to orbit.

How it works

An inward heelflip popped off the nose: a backside shove-it and a heelflip together, with the nollie pop making the board come out from under the rider rather than round them. Bryan Herman performs it in the promotional clip for his Emerica G6 shoe.

Step by step

  1. Roll with the front foot back at the nose and the back foot near the tail bolts.
  2. Pop the nose and scoop backside at the same time.
  3. Kick the heel out to put the heelflip through the shove.
  4. Let both finish together - the board should come out from under you, not around you.
  5. Catch over the bolts and roll away.

Body mechanics

Back footLifts and waits at the tail for the board to come back level.
ShouldersSquare - the board turns, you do not.
ArmsLevel, resisting the pull of a board rotating away from the body.
GazeOn the nose as it comes round to see whether the flip is keeping up with the shove.
