Zero Flip

Shown for a regular-footed rider. Teal ring + arrow = the rider's facing direction; teal band = the tail; a dot is where a hand holds the board - bright yellow for the front hand, amber for the back one, which is the whole difference between a mute and an indy. Board and rider rotate independently - each follows its own component. Drag to orbit.
How it works
The impossible's rotation with nothing holding it: the board wraps a full end-over-end turn around its lateral axis, tail-under and nose-over-the-top, but it is thrown clear of the feet instead of hugging the foot that scooped it. That single difference is the whole trick. An impossible is steered all the way round - the wrapping foot meters the speed and keeps the board underneath the rider, which is why it can be done low and slow - whereas a zero flip is one hard scoop and then nothing: the board completes the loop in free air and has to be popped high enough and read accurately enough that the feet arrive back on a deck they were never touching. Same components, same 360 degrees; only the contact is missing.
Step by step
- Set the back foot right on the tip of the tail with the front foot back off the nose, out of the board's way.
- Pop hard and straight up - a zero flip needs the height an impossible can do without.
- Scoop the tail down and back in one violent stroke and then let go completely; nothing follows the board round.
- Lift both knees and let the deck loop through the space underneath you in free air.
- Track the tail all the way over the top and back down - there is no foot on it telling you where it is.
- Catch the grip as it comes level, stomp both bolts and roll away.
Body mechanics
| Front foot | Retreats early and stays high; any contact during the loop turns the trick back into an impossible. |
|---|---|
| Back foot | Delivers one hard scoop off the tail tip and then leaves - the release is the difference between the two tricks. |
| Shoulders | Square and level; there is nothing to steer, so the rider only holds still and waits. |
| Arms | Up and out for height, then quiet - corrections mid-loop are impossible with the board free. |
| Gaze | Down on the tail through the whole revolution, reading the board's speed rather than feeling it. |
