roll yaw pitch body

Shown for a regular-footed rider. Teal ring + arrow = the rider's facing direction; teal band = the tail; a dot is where a hand holds the board - bright yellow for the front hand, amber for the back one, which is the whole difference between a mute and an indy. Board and rider rotate independently - each follows its own component. Drag to orbit.

How it works

A heelflip with a backside 180 body varial: the board heelflips and keeps its heading while the rider turns out from over it. Done like an ordinary heelflip except that the shoulders are already turned about 90 degrees backside at the pop, and the board is caught halfway through the rider's turn.

Step by step

  1. Roll in and set the shoulders already turned partway backside.
  2. Pop and flick a normal heelflip.
  3. Let the feet leave the board and carry the 180 on your own.
  4. The board keeps rolling straight underneath - do not take it with you.
  5. Catch it as the turn passes halfway and ride away fakie.

Body mechanics

Front footFlicks the heelflip and then leaves the board entirely for the varial.
Back footPops and comes off; it has nothing to do with the turn.
ShouldersPre-wound backside at the pop, which is what buys the 180 its time.
ArmsWrap backside with the shoulders to pull the body round off the board.
GazeFinds the board again halfway through the turn - the catch is early, not late.
