Shown for a regular-footed rider. Teal ring + arrow = the rider's facing direction; teal band = the tail; a dot is where a hand holds the board - bright yellow for the front hand, amber for the back one, which is the whole difference between a mute and an indy. Board and rider rotate independently - each follows its own component. Drag to orbit.
How it works
A varial kickflip with the body turning 180 the opposite way to the board. Both turn, and they counter-rotate: the board shoves backside while the rider goes frontside, so the rider ends up facing the way the board came from. Everything about it fights itself, which is the appeal.
Step by step
- Roll in and set up as for a varial kickflip.
- Pop and scoop the board backside while throwing the shoulders frontside.
- Let the feet leave - the two rotations cannot both happen through them.
- Track a board that is turning away from the direction you are turning.
- Catch it level and land.
Body mechanics
| Front foot | Flicks the kickflip, then leaves the board to the shove. |
|---|---|
| Back foot | Scoops backside against a body going frontside. |
| Shoulders | Turn frontside, opposing the board - this is the whole trick. |
| Arms | Counter-swing frontside, hard, to win against the scoop. |
| Gaze | Loses the board early and has to find it again; commit to the turn first. |
