Shown for a regular-footed rider. Teal ring + arrow = the rider's facing direction; teal band = the tail; a dot is where a hand holds the board - bright yellow for the front hand, amber for the back one, which is the whole difference between a mute and an indy. Board and rider rotate independently - each follows its own component. Drag to orbit.
How it works
An ollie with a 180-degree rotation of board and body around the vertical axis in the backside direction - the rider's back turns to face the direction of travel first. The shoulders pre-wind frontside, then whip backside at the pop; because the rider rotates blind to the landing for the first half, most skaters carry the last degrees of rotation with a small pivot on landing. Lands rolling fakie.
Step by step
- Ollie stance, back foot centered-to-heel-side on the tail.
- Wind the shoulders slightly frontside (open) in the crouch.
- Pop and unwind the shoulders backside, throwing the leading arm across the chest.
- Level the board mid-air while hips carry board and body through the half turn.
- Spot the landing over the back (now leading) shoulder late in the rotation.
- Land over the bolts, allowing a small rear-truck pivot to finish the 180, and roll away fakie.
Body mechanics
| Front foot | Ollie placement; after the drag it presses on the nose to pull the board around backside. |
|---|---|
| Back foot | Pops, then guides the tail toward the toe side as the body turns. |
| Shoulders | Pre-wind frontside, snap backside; the head rotates last. |
| Arms | Lead arm sweeps across the body backside; both settle wide for the blind landing. |
| Gaze | Forward through the pop, then over the trailing shoulder to find the landing. |
