Shown for a regular-footed rider. Teal ring + arrow = the rider's facing direction; teal band = the tail; a dot is where a hand holds the board - bright yellow for the front hand, amber for the back one, which is the whole difference between a mute and an indy. Board and rider rotate independently - each follows its own component. Drag to orbit.
How it works
A backside 180 with a heelflip: board and body rotate 180 backside together while the board rolls toe-ward once. The heel kick extends toe-side - directly against the backside turn's direction - so the kicking leg must fire outward while the hips rotate away from it, then retract fast enough to catch a board arriving under a blind, rotating body. Widely considered the most technical of the four basic 180 flips.
Step by step
- Heelflip setup, shoulders wound slightly frontside.
- Pop and begin unwinding backside while the front foot slides to the toe-side pocket.
- Snap the heel out against the turn, then whip the leg back in with the rotation.
- Let the flip complete as body and board pass 90 of backside turn.
- Catch by feel, land fakie, and pivot out the remainder.
Body mechanics
| Front foot | Fires the heel snap against the body's rotation, then retracts sharply to rejoin the turn and catch. |
|---|---|
| Back foot | Pops and steers the tail through the backside arc; anchors the early catch. |
| Shoulders | Controlled backside release - too fast and the extended kick leg gets left behind. |
| Arms | Lead arm crosses the chest; the timing conflict is buffered with wide, active arms. |
| Gaze | Down at the flick as long as possible before the blind rotation takes over. |
