Shown for a regular-footed rider. Teal ring + arrow = the rider's facing direction; teal band = the tail; a dot is where a hand holds the board - bright yellow for the front hand, amber for the back one, which is the whole difference between a mute and an indy. Board and rider rotate independently - each follows its own component. Drag to orbit.
How it works
A frontside 180 with a heelflip: board and body rotate 180 frontside together while the board rolls once toe-ward. The pairing is mechanically sweet - the heel kick extends toe-side, the same side the chest opens toward in a frontside turn, so flick and rotation reinforce each other. This synergy makes it many skaters' favorite 180 flip despite the heelflip's less common base.
Step by step
- Heelflip setup with toes over the toe edge, shoulders wound gently backside.
- Pop and open the chest frontside while sliding into the heel snap.
- Kick the heel out through the toe-side nose pocket, the leg extending into the turn.
- Rotate with the flipping board through 180.
- Catch grip-up and land fakie over the bolts.
Body mechanics
| Front foot | Heel snap off the toe-side pocket, leg extending in the direction the body is already opening. |
|---|---|
| Back foot | Pops and sweeps the tail through the frontside half-turn beneath the hips. |
| Shoulders | Open frontside in one motion with the flick; the trick rewards a fluid, single-tempo release. |
| Arms | Front arm sweeps down the line; back arm trails for balance. |
| Gaze | Over the leading shoulder, with the flip caught in peripheral view. |
