roll yaw pitch body

Shown for a regular-footed rider. Teal ring + arrow = the rider's facing direction; teal band = the tail; a dot is where a hand holds the board - bright yellow for the front hand, amber for the back one, which is the whole difference between a mute and an indy. Board and rider rotate independently - each follows its own component. Drag to orbit.

How it works

The back wheels ride up and over onto the top of the coping while the tail presses vertically against it, leaving the board standing almost perpendicular to the ramp with the rider stacked above the lip. Getting in requires deliberately doing the thing every other lip trick avoids - letting the rear wheels climb past the coping - and getting out requires a small ollie or nose-wrap off the tail to pop the wheels back over into the transition, classically to fakie.

Step by step

  1. Approach the lip straight on with good speed and knees deeply compressed.
  2. Let the back wheels roll up and over the coping so they sit on top of it, tail pressing against the coping face.
  3. Stand up over the near-vertical board, hips above the lip, front foot high on the deck.
  4. Balance in the blunt with weight through the back wheels and tail.
  5. Snap a small pop off the tail, lift the wheels back over the coping, and drop in fakie, absorbing hard on re-entry.

Body mechanics

Front footHigh on the deck near the bolts, controlling the board's vertical attitude in the stall.
Back footOn the tail, pressing it into the coping face; it delivers the exit pop.
ShouldersRise up over the coping as the wheels climb it, then lean decisively down the ramp for the fakie pop-in.
ArmsForward and low, counterbalancing the body's position above the lip.
GazeAt the coping as the wheels climb over, then down the transition to spot the fakie re-entry.
