Shown for a regular-footed rider. Teal ring + arrow = the rider's facing direction; teal band = the tail; a dot is where a hand holds the board - bright yellow for the front hand, amber for the back one, which is the whole difference between a mute and an indy. Board and rider rotate independently - each follows its own component. Drag to orbit.
How it works
A frontside 180 with a kickflip: board and body rotate 180 frontside together around the vertical axis while the board also rolls once in the kickflip direction. Because the rider turns with the board, the yaw is driven by shoulders and hips as in an ollie 180, and the front foot's flick must be released while the whole system is already rotating - the flick sweeps around with the turn, which tends to throw the board behind the rider if the shoulders outrun the flip. Lands fakie.
Step by step
- Kickflip setup with the shoulders wound slightly backside and the back foot toward the toe edge of the tail.
- Pop while opening the chest frontside, starting the 180 as in a frontside ollie.
- Flick the heel-side nose corner mid-turn, letting the flick trail with the rotation.
- Keep board and body turning as one while the flip completes underneath.
- Catch grip-up at 180, land fakie over the bolts, and let the shoulders finish square.
Body mechanics
| Front foot | Flicks the heel-side nose pocket while already sweeping frontside; the catch comes back under the turned body. |
|---|---|
| Back foot | Pops from the toe-side tail and carries the tail through the frontside half-turn. |
| Shoulders | Lead the frontside 180 but must wait for the flick - shoulders-first is the classic way to lose the board behind you. |
| Arms | Open with the turn, then compress for the fakie catch. |
| Gaze | Over the leading shoulder early, catching the flip in the lower periphery. |
