roll yaw pitch body

Shown for a regular-footed rider. Teal ring + arrow = the rider's facing direction; teal band = the tail; a dot is where a hand holds the board - bright yellow for the front hand, amber for the back one, which is the whole difference between a mute and an indy. Board and rider rotate independently - each follows its own component. Drag to orbit.

How it works

A hardflip with a frontside 360 of the body, both going the same way, which carries the board round 540 - which makes it the frontside mirror of the Gazelle Flip rather than a trick of its own. It is widely called the Grape Flip, and the components work out identical to a frontside gazelle, so that name is kept as an alias. The double grape flip puts two hardflips inside the same 360 of body rotation and was invented by Donovan Strain.

Step by step

  1. Roll in and set up as for a hardflip.
  2. Pop, shove frontside and throw the shoulders frontside with it.
  3. Let the board rise vertically through the legs as the turn begins.
  4. Carry the 360 while the board completes its 540.
  5. Catch the board level and ride away.

Body mechanics

Front footPuts the kickflip through the shove, then clears the board's path through the legs.
Back footShoves frontside and keeps shoving - the 540 comes from here.
ShouldersLead a full frontside 360, in the same direction as the board.
ArmsOpen wide frontside and then close to stop the turn at 360.
GazeOver the leading shoulder for most of it, down at the end.
